Automatically Ask for the Current User Location

Have the Location field fill itself in from the visitor's browser, so people land on ads near them instead of typing an address first — and know what to do when someone blocks the prompt.

You can enable a feature that requests a user's location. If they consent, their address will be automatically filled in the Location field, enabling them to search for ads within a specified radius, such as 30 miles (this radius can be adjusted by the user).

To set this up, edit any page that includes the location field via Elementor; this could be on your homepage or the search results template.

  1. 1 Open the page in Elementor

Edit the page where the Location Field is present — your homepage or the search results template.

  2. 2 Turn on the location request

In the field's settings, enable Automatically ask for current user location.

The Elementor editor with a Location field selected. The left panel shows toggles for "Automatically ask for current user location", "Display 'My Location' button" and "Display Radius Control", next to a preview of a car search form.

From then on, when a new user visits the page, their browser will prompt them to share their location.

A browser permission dialog under the address bar reading "...xyz wants to Know your location", with Block and Allow buttons.

If the user agrees to share their location, the field will be automatically populated with their address, as estimated by Google Maps.

A search bar with a pin icon, a filled-in location reading "XYZ, USA", a clear button, and a radius selector set to "+30 miles".
A blocked prompt cannot be re-asked
This prompt is a browser feature. If someone chooses Block, you cannot ask them again — they have to re-enable it themselves. On a Mac using Chrome, for example, that means clicking the crossed-out pin icon in the address bar and switching Location back on. This window varies depending on the operating system and browser.
A Chrome site information popover opened from a "Not allowed" badge in the address bar, showing "Connection is secure", a Location row with its toggle switched off, and a "Reset permission" button.
