How to prevent emails go to SPAM folder? How to use SMTP?

Send your site's emails through SMTP with the WP Mail SMTP plugin, so notifications and contact form messages land in the inbox instead of the Spam folder.

1 minute read

This theme sends emails with the default WordPress mail function — the same one WordPress itself uses.

Check your server first
If you already receive emails from WordPress — right after installing it, or when you change your password — your server will work with the theme too. It is the same function.

By default, WordPress uses the PHP mail() function, which is often why emails end up in the Spam folder. To avoid this, set up mail delivery through SMTP instead.

Set up SMTP with WP Mail SMTP

  1. 1 Install the WP Mail SMTP plugin

In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins » Add New, search for WP Mail SMTP and click Install Now.

The Add Plugins screen with "WP MAIL SMTP" typed into the search box and arrows pointing at the search box and at the Install Now button on the first result, WP Mail SMTP by WPForms
  2. 2 Activate the plugin

When the download finishes, click Activate on the same card.

The Add Plugins result for WP Mail SMTP by WPForms with a green arrow pointing at the blue Activate button; the admin sidebar shows a Listivo Panel and Plugins > Add New selected
  3. 3 Open the plugin settings

A WP Mail SMTP entry appears in the left sidebar, under Settings. Open its Settings screen.

The WordPress sidebar showing the WP Mail SMTP menu below Settings, expanded to Settings, Email Log, Email Reports, Tools and About Us
  4. 4 Configure the SMTP options

We recommend sending through a Gmail account, because it is the most stable and always works. Follow this guide to configure it: https://wpmailsmtp.com/docs/how-to-set-up-the-gmail-mailer-in-wp-mail-smtp/
