How to Enable Google Maps and Get a Google Maps Key
Create a Google Maps API key in the Google Cloud console, enable the three APIs MyHome relies on, and paste the key into your MyHome Panel so maps and address search work on your site.
2 minute read
To run Google Maps on your website you need to generate a Google Maps API key and add it to your MyHome Panel. Three APIs have to be enabled for it to work correctly:
- Maps JavaScript API
- Geocoding API
- Places API
Create the API key in the Google Cloud console
-
1
Open the Google Maps Platform documentation
Visit https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/.
- 2 Sign in with your Google Account
-
3
Open the console
Click the Go to Console or Get started button.
-
4
Pick Maps and Places
In the Enable Google Maps Platform dialog, tick Maps and Places and click CONTINUE.
-
5
Enter a new project name
Type a name for the project and agree to the terms, then click NEXT.
-
6
Choose your billing account
Pick an existing billing account or create a new one for the project.
Check that the three APIs are enabled
Please make sure the following APIs are enabled:
- Maps JavaScript API
- Geocoding API
- Places API
If one of them is missing, click ENABLE APIS AND SERVICES, search for the API — Geocoding API, for example — and click it, then Enable.
Add the key to your MyHome Panel
-
1
Copy the API key
Open Credentials in the Google Cloud console and copy the key from the API keys table.
-
2
Paste it into MyHome
In WordPress open MyHome Panel → Settings, switch to the Maps tab, paste the key into Google Maps API Key and click Save Changes.
